Strong Enough for a Man

For what is supposed to be “the first network for men”, am I the only one who finds the logo for the recently-branded SpikeTV a little feminine?
It looks like a logo for a brand of tampon (and not a particularly comfortable one at that).
Zombie Claire says:
It’s ROCK STAR FONT all ROCKED OUT and like I JUST SCRIBBLED THE WORD ‘SPIKE’ HERE I HAVE NO TIME FOR NEATNESS! TA! I’M OFF TO PLAY WEMBLEY STADIUM!

Robot Johnny says:
That’s part of the problem—it IS neat and clean. It’s soft, flowing, and light. (Just like A MAN)
Erik says:
I want to cry.
Someone lend me their shoulder.
Zombie Claire says:
I don’t know what kind of manlike font you expect, Johnny! Do all the letters have to be in that block font they use for sports? Like the ones on high school jackets that say:
ST. ANTHONY HIGH SCHOOL
V A R S I T Y B A S E B A L L
0 3
Or what about the font for the motion picture RADIO inspired by a true story???
Robot Johnny says:
I think it’s great typography, it just doesn’t fit the attitude that the station is trying to exude. Think Man Show. Think James Bond marathons. Think Die Hard. Think beer.
Now imagine those with the same type treatment. Suddenly John McClane doesn’t seem so tough.
fink says:
But he’s still dead sexy in that worn out tank top and barefoot.
Ahem, when is that going to be on Spike?
Erik says:
Y’know, I think your font Horse would have fit the image better.
Llord says:
It makes me think of little woodland creatures singing happy songs.
Keri says:
I don’t mind it so much. At least they didn’t dot the “i” with a little heart or something. Actually, it kind of looks like my husband’s handwriting.
...uh oh…
Zombie Claire says:
It’s not all beer manliness, they have that cartoon starring Kelsey Grammar and lots and lots of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I think this man Spike has a sensitive side.
