I painted this (shamelessly entitled Scary Monsters, Super Creeps) for an upcoming show at Wootini in Carrboro, NC called Lions, Tigers, Bears, Etc.—a group exhibition based on concepts of fear, manipulation, power, and powerlessness.
It’s a little unrefined, as it was, admittedly, created somewhat in haste. But I think it’s still a fun piece, and it will be shown alongside (and in a book with) at least two artists whom I believe to be the finest at what they do: Tom Gauld and S. Britt.
Thanks to David Huyck for the invite. I’ll post details on the show as the date nears (it’s in July).

I love this, Johnny. I like how the Dem Bones guy has his hand out to capture the drips from the Sea Creature. And I dig the “ “ for the Invisible Man. Very cool stuff.
Christeen says:
It’s playful & homorous, the colors are cohesvie, it looks great- I don’t know what you think it would look like had you done a ‘better job’, but to me, it certainly doesn’t look like it was done in haste! Great stuff! It’s like looking at a family reunion around the holidays, ay? *smiles* Keep cranking out good stuff!
Johnny says:
Thanks guys! Yes, I suppose I’m my own worst critic. But that’s true of many artists, n’est-ce pas?
Luc says:
These are great! Uh.. wanna draw some 52 Monsters? LOL! (I’m so behind!)
