Last night Matt invited me to go see the Mountain Goats with him at Lee’s Palace. It was great to finally meet in person. We met up first at the Green Room for a few pints along with Kean and Ryan, whom I had also never met.
We joked that surely one of us would blog about the evening, and when at the end of the evening Kean said he was going home to work on comics, I was guilted into drawing the above cartoon of when I got home. When I finished it, I thought it was crap, but this now it looks better than I remembered—although it’s still kinda sloppy. For example, I don’t know why it looks like Matt is playing an invisible piano. But give a guy a break; it was 2 am.
From left to right that’s me, Ryan, Kean and Matt. I figure by documenting Ryan’s disregard of journal comics IN a journal comic I am somehow trumping him. But I’m probably just proving his point. (Click the image to enlarge)

Mountain Goats rock. I discovered them through KXLU 88.9 FM, who play all sorts of obscure yet tasty stuff. How’d you like their stuff? Good doodle.

I loved the show—I wasn’t too familiar with them apart from some songs I downloaded from the usual gang of MP3 blogs. But apparently they have about 10 or so albums, so I don’t know where to begin! Any suggestions?
GN says:
Whoa - 10 albums?! You got me there! I have a distinct habit of writing down every song + artist that I like on KXLU and trying to find the matching album (I’ve so far compiled an Excel wishlist of about 100+ CDs)...a couple Mountain Goats albums should be on there, based on the songs I liked. I’ll have to look through my notes...I’ll get back to you on that.

holy sh*t! that’s great!
‘we shall all be healed’ is my favourite MG album. apparently, they recorded all the early stuff on a boom-box… and you can tell.
LOL at (with?)dino-ryan!
