Haiku Review: Superman Returns

With such theme music,
it should be hard to dislike.
But it kinda sucked.

Really? Maybe I should wait until the DVD. I’m mostly disappointed that it doesn’t warrant a “Super, man” comment.

Andertoons says:

I liked the fact that it wasn’t your typical BOFFO SOCKO superhero movie.  I thought it was adult and intriguing.

Johnny says:

Adult?  Like how the only thing in the entire movie Clark/Supes cared about was his unrequited crush on Lois Lane?  It was like an episode of Dawson’s Creek!

Naseem says:

Or Laguna Beach! Not that I am familiar with that show or anything.

Andertoons says:

I think I’m just happy it wasn’t another Fantastic Four.

I thought it was marvelous.

Not a perfect movie (what is these days?) but the 10 year-old fan in me beat out the old cynical artsy fart.

I ran around with my arms extended for about 2 hours after I came home…

Jg says:

Exactly, Rogue—it was the nostalgia kick that did it for me, mostly. Saw it for the second time tonight, still just as captivated. Throw those blue swooping titles on screen and I couldn’t stop grinning.

Johnny says:

I want to not br cynical about it, but there was just something missing for me to give it that “wow” factor.  I agree with you about the credit sequence, though!  I was slightly giddy when I realized it was the same type treatment as the original movie…

Jenni says:

Didn’t you just cringe when she fainted on the plane… i know i did.  It’s one of those movies i found that there wasn’t much to say about it afterwards. It was mildly entertaining but i agree with Johnny, nothing astounding.

Matt says:

A lot of the critics who liked it are saying “it’s not your typical superhero movie” - which is B.S. because it’s as superhero-y as you can get.  BUT, the special FX were great, Superman’s character was great, Lois Lane looked perfect, and who wouldn’t pay $8.50 to see a bullet be stopped by Superman’s eye?  I’d see it again.

Nico says:

I just refuse to see any Superman movie where he can fly.
Get back to leaping over tall buildings with a single bound, and I’m in.

Maria says:

The critics loved it, but I found it not more exciting than any all right movie. And yes, the music was great, that’s about it. Lois Lane’s name should be changed to Lois Lame.

josh snyder says:

hey, how many times did Lois get the crap kicked out of her neck and back? how the hell was she able to just get right back up as if nothing had smashed into her vertebrae?  Also, The opening credit sequence was the best part of the movie.

Jenn says:

The openeing credits drove me mad on the big screen. The typography was so much of a throw back that i had to throw my head back and look at the ceiling.

Did someone say Laguna Beach… not that i watch that either. “OMG! whyyy Jason!”

I thought Superman Returns was fantastic. I like the way it tied in to Superman I & II, yet moved on from there as well. It was everything I’d hoped it would be.
